Getting Started in Evolve & Survive

Spawn as a worm, eat five pickups, then morph before a mantis finds you.

Getting Started

Your first minute in Evolve & Survive is supposed to feel unfair. Official art literally labels the pink worm YOU and parks a giant green mantis over it. That is the tutorial. This page turns that joke into a sequence you can finish on a 30-player server without burning every Revive from codes.

You do not need a gamepass. You do not need friends on the server. You do need to ignore the first predator long enough to eat.

Minute zero: HUD and Shop

When the voxel lawn loads, look left. Four buttons sit in a column: Shop, Ready!, Index, Bag. Look up. Eat Food (0/5) sits over a progress bar. Look to the top right for the version chip (v2.2 as of this writing) and Invite.

Open Shop immediately. Switch to the yellow Codes tab and redeem every live string using how to redeem. Bank the Revives. Do not spend Gold yet. Close Shop with the red X.

Ready! is a gift/claim button, not a combat ready-up. Tap it if a badge is showing, then ignore it. Index is your Evolvedex — leave it closed until you morph once. Bag is inventory.

Minute one: Eat Food (0/5)

Red cube snacks and purple fruit sit on the grass. Walk into five of them. The bar at the top is the real tutorial. Morph progress in this game starts with eating, not with a kill streak.

While you eat:

  • Stay near the spawn lawn if larger forms are contesting the desert.
  • Do not chase moving silhouettes. A brown ant can bully a worm. A centipede ends the run.
  • If a predator looks at you, break line and keep eating. Revives are for later forms.

The controls page covers camera and movement if the lawn feels slippery on mobile.

First morph: pick a lane, not a vibe

After the food bar fills you will start climbing the form ladder. Official thumbnails show two clear collection lines:

  • Grass / forest: pink worm → brown ant → yellow-backed stag beetle → scorpion (sometimes shown as a mystery silhouette).
  • Desert / oasis: shrew or mouse → purple rat → scorpion, with a glowing secret at the end.

There are also side animals: turtle on the beach, green mantis on the lawn, and several centipede palettes that appear as Hour 24 threats. You will meet them as enemies before you own them.

Read how to evolve before you commit Revives to a line you cannot finish. The early-game tier list ranks what is safe to play while you are still tiny.

First fights: weight class matters

Evolve & Survive is online PvP in 30-player servers. Eating in peace is allowed. Sharing the desert with a glowing red centipede is not a fair trade for a worm. Rules of thumb:

  • Fight forms at your size or smaller.
  • Leave anything with a long body, raised claws, or glowing eyes.
  • After a knockout, spend a Revive only if you were already past ant. Worm deaths are cheap lessons.

Unique attacks belong to each animal. Do not assume your worm nibble scales into a mantis lunge. The abilities page and combat guide explain how to think about those kits without inventing skill names Structa has not published.

First Index pass

Open Index after your first morph. Check which portraits are colored in. Grey or silhouette entries are the collection goal. Completing every form is the long-term loop the Roblox description calls the Evolvedex. Use the Evolvedex guide so you are not guessing whether a glowing scorpion is a secret or just a thumbnail.

First Gold decision

Update3 gives 100 Gold. That is enough to peek at Cosmetics, Skins, or a wheel spin. It is not enough to ignore Revives. The shop guide and revive planner both say the same thing: lives, then spins, then looks.

First session checklist

  1. Redeem live codes.
  2. Finish Eat Food (0/5).
  3. Morph once along a documented line.
  4. Open Index and mark missing forms.
  5. Win or escape one fight in your weight class.
  6. Leave while you still have Revives. The updates hub can wait until tomorrow.

If you only remember one sentence: the mantis in the thumbnail is not a mascot, it is a warning.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players search before they jump back into a server.

What should I do first in Evolve & Survive?

Redeem codes in Shop, then complete Eat Food (0/5) before you pick a fight.

Can I skip eating and just kill players?

You can try. Worms that skip food die to ants and mantises. The HUD objective exists for a reason.

Is the game single-player?

No. Servers hold 30 players and combat is PvP. You can avoid fights early, but later forms will hunt.

When should I spend a Revive?

After you own a form you care about keeping. Do not spend Revives defending a worm. See the revive planner.
